THE SEARCH FOR THE UNICORN
So here we are missing work for the day
We’ve all gone fishing on the glorious spey
I’m on the bank with my heart set on trout
The boy’s with the big rod’s have waded way out
-----------------------
We’re not feeling too bright on this beautiful day
The price of the booze we all have to pay
Beer gin and wine with a slammer or two
If you add in the whiskies we had a right to be foo
-----------------------
We’ve had hailstones and sunshine, but no fish at all
Then someone shouts “lunchtime” a bloody good call
So i’ve eaten my pie and i’m getting ready to nod
When davy comes over and say’s i’m using his rod
-----------------------
It appears i was still drunk when we set up our gear
No wonder he’s worried i broke his last year
So we swap rods and laugh then head back to the water
Another four hours to find fish we can slaughter
-----------------------
It’s late afternoon and i’m starting to dwindle
I think i’ll sit on the bench and have a read at my kindle
Davy the ghillie suggests fishing with silver and red
So i tie on a butcher and cast in front of the shed
-----------------------
An hour goes by with my luck just the same
So i lie on the bench and i’m ready for hame
I’m watching the boys on the water still trying
But as the last casts are made hopes slowly dying
-----------------------
So we gather together and strip down our gear
Then we say our goodbyes to the spey till next year
We head of to granton for haddock and chips in a dish
At least that way we can say we’ve handled a fish
-----------------------
We eat our fish suppers by the river in town
It’s a beautiful place as the sun’s going down
I’m sure as we leave and get off on our way
A big fish just shrugs then glides up the spey
-----------------------
